Surah 2
Surah Al-Baqarah: The Heifer
Revealed at Madinah
2:141
This is a people that have passed away; for them is what they earned, and for you is what you earn; and you will not be questioned as to what they used to do.

2:142
The fools among the people will soon say: “What has turned them from their Qiblah on which they were?”
You say: “To Allah belong the East and the West; He guides whom He pleases to the Right Path.”

2:143
And likewise We have made you an Ummat well-balanced that you may become witnesses over mankind, and that the Rasul may become a witness over you.
And We did not appoint the Qiblah on which you were except that We might distinguish who follows the Rasul from him who turns upon his heels. And this is indeed very hard except for
those whom Allah has guided. And Allah is not going to make your Faith fruitless; for Allah indeed is the most Compassionate Rewarding towards mankind.

2:144
Indeed We have seen turning your face to heaven, so We shall certainly make you master of the Qiblah which you like; turn then your face in the
direction of the Masjid al-Haram. And wherever you may be, turn then your faces in the direction of it. And indeed those who have been given the scripture know for certainty that it
is the Truth from their Rabb. And Allah is not unaware as to what they do.

2:145
And even if you should bring to those who have been given the scripture all the Signs, they would not follow your Qiblah; nor can you be a follower
of their Qiblah; while some of them are not followers of some others Qiblah. And were you to follow their low desires after what has come to you of the knowledge,
in that case you indeed will also be among the unjust.

2:146
Those to whom We have given the scripture recognize him as they recognize their children. But a group of them do surely conceal the truth, while they know.

2:147
The Truth is from your Rabb, therefore do not become among the disputers.

2:148
And for everyone there is a direction, he turns to that, therefore you should vie in good things. Wherever you may be, Allah will bring you all together.
Surely Allah is Powerful over all things.

2:149
And from wheresoever you come forth then turn your face in the direction of the Masjid al-Haram. For indeed, that is the truth from your Rabb. And Allah is not unaware as to what you do.

2:150
So from wherever you come forth then turn your face in the direction of the Masjid al-Haram. And wherever you may be turn your faces then in the direction of it, so that people may not have
dispute against you— except those of them who are unjust; so do not fear them, but fear Me. And, in order that I may complete My favor upon you, and that you may follow guidance.

2:151
Even as We have sent among you a Rasul from among yourselves, reciting to you Our Messages, and purifying you, and teaching you the Scripture and the wisdom, and teaching you what you were not knowing

2:152
Therefore remember Me, I shall remember you; and give thanks to Me, and do not
defy Me.

2:153
O you who believe! seek help with perseverance and Salat; for Allah is with the persevering ones.

2:154
And do not say regarding those who are killed in Allah’s way: “DEAD ”. Rather living, though you cannot perceive.

2:155
And We shall certainly test you with something of fear, and hunger, and loss of property and lives, and of fruits. And give glad tidings to the perseverers—

2:156
who, when a misfortune confronts them, say: “Surely we belong to Allah and to Him invariably we do return.”

2:157
These are those upon whom are blessings from their Rabb and mercy, and these are themselves the guided.

2:158
The Safa and the Marwah are indeed of the symbols of Allah. Therefore whoever performs the Hajj of the House or performs
‘Umrah, there is then no blame upon him if he makes Tawaf between the two. And whoever does good spontaneously, then Allah is indeed the most Appreciating, all-Knowing.

2:159
Surely as to those who conceal what We have revealed of the clear proofs and guidance, after We made it clear for people in the Scripture,
these! Allah condemns them, and so condemn them all who can condemn,—

2:160
except those who repent and amend, and make manifest; then as to these— I turn to them; for I am the oft-Returning, the most Rewarding.
